According to The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/09/AR2009070902702.html), AIG is attempting to gain support for more bonuses for their executives. Of course, like the last round of bonuses, the public outcry over this is loud and plentiful. Thank God these people aren't running our country.
I'm not using this moment to discuss whether AIG should have been bailed out last year (no, they shouldn't have). Instead, I want to point out despite the fact that they were bailed out when they should not have been, there are still contractual obligations in place to hand out bonuses to executives. Do these executives make more money than any human being should? ABSOLUTELY! But AIG was willing to pay the company this, and when companies make poor decisions on paying their executives, they go out of business. Unfortunately, we were not willing to let them do that.
So, instead of letting capitalism regulate itself, as it always has, the government steps in to save a failing company and then the public wants to complain about the way the company is run. The ignorance of the general public is amazing - and its not their fault. Its the job of the media to be the fourth branch of government and a watchdog over the other 3 branches. For the love of GOD people, do your jobs and cover the news and let the PEOPLE decide how they feel rather than force feed the opinions to us!
This new mob rule I've seen crop up with the Obama camp reminds me of a skit from Monty Python and they Holy Grail. No matter how absurd an idea is - if one person yells loud enough it makes it true.

Generic Whine Blog (Part Deux)
It has been over 2 years since I last wrote the entry "Generic Whine Blog" on my MySpace (http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=28477075&blogId=226289238) account. Boy have things changed...
For one thing (the astute reader will notice this right away), my writing skills have gone from subpar to terrible. I apologise in advance for any brain spasms incurred as a result of reading this.
The topic I covered in the last blog entry was "Growing up" and how changes in my life have affected my personality. Indeed, I'm not sure if the Carl who wrote that 2 years ago would recognise who I am today. For better or worse I have significantly toned down my antics and live a much more secluded life. I wouldn't call myself a hermit - I do still endulge in an adult beverage from time to time - but I'm finding that I'm enjoying sitting at home almost as much as waking up drunk in Aiken (long story).
Could Hot Carl be dead???
Not likely. But Hot Carl has changed. I'm beginning to see that my life going forward will not be defined by the events of the evening, but rather the people I meet along the way. And its hard to make friends when you're praying to the porcelain gods.
